A good center can take a team to the next level and in the NBA, a big man is the starting point for most teams. The spotlight was placed on the center position this offseason with all the trades and movements of rosters going on. Andrew Bynum goes to the Philadelphia 76ers and they jump up in the rankings in the Eastern Conference. Dwight Howard goes to the Los Angeles Lakers and instantly (with the addition of Steve Nash) the Lakers are considered title contenders again and the best in the West to some. Even with all the movement taking place, the ranking of the big men is still a highly debated topic. So, we rank the top five centers of the NBA and as usual we encourage you to respond and send in a ranking of your own (if you disagree).

The Top Five Centers of the NBA

  1. Dwight Howard (Los Angeles Lakers)
  2. Andrew Bynum (Philadelphia 76ers)
  3. Marc Gasol (Memphis Grizzlies)
  4. Roy Hibbert (Indiana Pacers)
  5. Tyson Chandler (New York Knicks)

Also we give you five more centers in the game to watch as the season progresses to see if they can take a step up to the next level.

  1. Al Jefferson (Utah Jazz)
  2. Brook Lopez (Brooklyn Nets)
  3. Andrea Bargnani (Toronto Raptors)
  4. Javale McGee (Denver Nuggets)
  5. DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers)

We chose not to include Greg Monroe of the Detroit Pistons due to the reports of him moving to power forward after the Pistons drafted UConn big man Andre Drummond. Also, Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks was not included due to injury and the fact that his natural position is the power forward spot. Keep an eye on these guys throughout the NBA season as their development continues to take shape and it may open your eyes to some teams you may have over looked.
