After defeating the Memphis Grizzlies and winning nine out of their last ten games, the Atlanta Hawks are starting to get recognized as a team to be reckoned with. People are starting to take notice in the defense that is being played and the shooting from the perimeter allows Atlanta to never be out of a game. Josh Smith and Al Horford are leading the charge while Kyle Korver, Lou Williams and DeShawn Stevenson are filling out their roles rather nicely. It was rumored when the Hawks acquired Devin Harris that the job of point guard might be taken away from Jeff Teague, however he is also putting his imprint on the team and also stepping up as a team leader. Coach Larry Drew has the team playing with energy, confidence and most importantly they are playing together.
The road to getting more respect is still a long, winding one; Atlanta goes to South Beach to face the Miami Heat for their next game. Later this month they host Oklahoma City, go to Philly and then the Bulls come to Atlanta. Many non-believers say that the Hawks are playing a light schedule and would get bounced early in the playoffs, but a team can only beat the opponents that are put in front of them and anything can happen between now and the playoffs.
