The third quarter would be a different story entirely as the Hawks advantage dwindled away and the Celtics eventually took the lead and began to pull away at the end of the third. Boston was able to hold Atlanta to only nine points in the third quarter by turning up the defense and not allowing the Hawks clean looks at the basket.
Atlanta tried to continue the fight as they cut Boston's lead down to five points in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics would go on a 6-0 run to get some distance. At the end of the day, Boston won the game 89-81 and the Hawks were left scratching their heads.
The 21 points that Lou Williams scored tied a team record for the most points scored in a half this season. Williams would end the game with 28 points, he went 1-3 in the second half ( I know right, what happened to his touches??). Jeff Teague was next in line for the Hawks in scoring, he contributed 17 points and Josh Smith added 12 points and 10 boards (4-18 from the floor).
Paul Pierce led the Celtics in scoring with 26 points and nine rebounds. Rajon Rondo messed around and got a triple double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Kevin Garnett also scored 14 for Boston and Brandon Bass added 10.
With the loss the Atlanta Hawks have lost two games in a row and three of their last four. Atlanta goes on the road for their next two as they travel to Minnesota and Cleveland.
