Atlanta started the game shooting pretty well but still found themselves down 29-28 at the end of the first quarter. The Hawks cooled off in the second quarter, shooting just 22.7 percent from the floor and scoring only 12 points while the Cavs scored 20. At the half, the Hawks found themselves down 49-40 in Cleveland.
The second half started off positive for Atlanta, as they tied the game at 51 points each in the third, but Cleveland went on a run where star guard Kyrie Irving scored 18 points in the period. Cleveland was up 77-63 three-fourths of the way through over Atlanta. It did not get any better from there as the Hawks lost their fourth game in a row, this one with a final score of 99-83.
The Hawks managed to only shoot five free throws in the entire game against Cleveland, managing to tie a franchise low. They only made two of the five free throws, which is a league low for the season.
Kyrie Irving was the man on the floor as he scored 33 points for Cleveland. Forward Alonzo Gee put in 15 points and both Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller added 11, Thompson grabbed 14 boards and Zeller pulled down 12.
Josh Smith led Atlanta in the loss with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jeff Teague finished with 15 points and eight assists, Al Horford scored 14 points and Kyle Korver added 12.
The Hawks come home to take on the Utah Jazz next and Atlanta's head coach Larry Drew has vowed to find a way to get the team going.
