The closer we get to the February 21 trade deadline, the name that is on the tip of everyone's tongue is none other than the Atlanta Hawks' Josh Smith. In the recent weeks, we heard rumors about Phoenix looking to get his services, after that it was Brooklyn and now the San Antonio Spurs seem to have some interest.
According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Spurs are taking a hard look at the Hawks' forward. He also took the time to remind readers that Atlanta GM Danny Ferry came to us from San Antonio and we all know through the Joe Johnson trade that a lot of these deals are made through the relationships formed in the past. Who would the Hawks get in return? That's a great question and first assumption would be, as Spears pointed out, that Tiago Splitter would be involved. Who else might come to Atlanta in the deal, maybe Nando de Colo, Kawhii Leonard (if Hawks are lucky!) or maybe a first round draft pick. This scenario does not seem as intriguing as the deal from Phoenix or Brooklyn, but it is tough to say what Ferry wants in return.
When asked about being traded, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution quotes Smith as saying, " This is like the third year. I just have to keep playing and not worry about the business side of basketball."
